21 STS Silver Stars AF Times
But he remembers how the smoke rose with each new round, and he remembers the thought that played over and over in his head until the insurgent lay dead: I have to kill the shooter before he kills all of us.
Sheridan was in Afghanistan's Wardak Province preparing for a mission with Army Special Forces and Afghan security forces last March when an Afghan national police officer turned his gun on the team. Within moments, some 20 insurgents from outside the base began firing on U.S. forces and their Afghan counterparts in a coordinated, insider attack.

Air Force officer with Pope Field ties gets first star
An Air Force officer with ties to Pope Field has been selected for his first star.
Col. Robert G. Armfield is commander of the 24th Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, Fla., the Pentagon said.
He was included in a list of Air Force officer announcements released Thursday by the Department of Defense.
Armfield was one of 30 colonels nominated for appointment to brigadier general.
During his nearly 23-year career, Armfield has twice served at what is now Pope Field at Fort Bragg, but was previously known as Pope Air Force Base.
From 1998 to 2002, Armfield was a member of the 24th Special Tactics Squadron, according to his official biography.
During that time, he was named the 2000 Air Force Special Tactics Officer of the Year and received the Air Force Lance Sijan Leadership Award in 2002.
In 2005, Armfield returned to command the 24th Special Tactics Squadron for two years.
