Robert M. Hill
1940 - 2012
CHICOPEE - Robert MacMillan Hill, 72, died suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at the Holyoke Medical Center. Born in Holyoke on Jan. 17, 1940, he was the son of the late G. Howard Hill and Corneil (MacMillan) Hill. Bob worked as a Computer Tech for IBM for 27 years until he retired in 1995. He was an Army veteran and served from 1959 - 1962. He then served in the Air Force from 1963 - 1967 as an Airman First Class during the Vietnam War. He was a Master Parachutist and HALO (High Altitude Low Openings) commando combat controller. Bob was also a member of the American Legion, Holyoke Post.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl A. (Bigelow) Hill, a son, Troy L. Hill of Longmeadow, a daughter, TaWonda L. Hill Patchkofsky of Springfield, three brothers, Frank Hill of Holyoke, Harry Hill of Ludlow and Jack Hill of Amherst, four grandchildren, Dante' Hill, DeVaughn Hill, Cassondra Hill Patchkofsky and Grason Patchkofsky, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held for Bob on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 10:30am in the Evergreen Cemetery in South Hadley. There are no calling hours.
