Red Ghormley Has Passed

I regret to inform you of the untimely death of Erwin “Red or Mike” M. Ghormley who deceased on February 14th at the age of 74 at Baylor Medical Center at Mc Kinney, TX of complications from pneumonia.

He was survived by his loving and devoted wife June of over 50 years of marriage who resides at 1407 Elyza Ct; Allen, TX 75002-5333. Other survivors include:  daughters, Darla Bartlett and husband, Daniel of Princeton, TX and Kristi Riddle and husband, Brent of Chaska, MN; son Evan Ghormley and wife, Amy of Allen, TX; grandchildren, Joshua Bartlett, Danniele Renee Caulfield of Pottsboro, TX; brother, Rodney Ghormley of Greenbay, WI and a host of loving family and friends.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during January, 1960 where he served as a Ground Radio Repairman. He graduated a jump school at Wiesbaden AB, Germany prior to being assigned to the Combat Control Team at the 5th APS at Evreux-Fauville AB, France:  September 1962/December 1963; 1st  APS Dyess AFB, TX: January 1964/September 1965; U.S Army 1st Cavalry (TACP) at An Khe, RVN: September 1965/December 1965; Patient at Brooks Army Medical Center at San Antonio, TX: December 1965/May 1967. He was medically retired from the USAF as a Staff Sgt due to wounds he received in RVN on December 19, 1965. Some of his medals he was awarded were the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medals. He subsequently retired from Mobil Oil Corporation as an accountant serving from 1972 until his retirement during 1993.

Mike had a benevolent nature about him that was demonstrated in his volunteer work at the Bonham VA hospital, his visitation of wounded service persons across the states, and his willingness to aid anyone at any time. Mike was a member of the West Allen Church of Christ, and served as a Deacon for over 35 years. He was Life Member 251 of the Combat Control Association, and was an avid photographer of CCA events and shared many photographs with others. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

The visitation will be held at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home located at 2525 Central Expressway North in Allen, TX 75013  (972) 562-2601 on Friday, February 20th from 7:00 to 9:00PM.
The funeral service will be held at the West Allen Church of Christ located at 1414 West Exchange Parkway in Allen (972) 727-5355 on Saturday, February 21st at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. Cards and flowers are acceptable.  A military honor guard has been requested.
