Betty Lee Sigman passed away on April 7, 2014, at her residence at Wellington Place in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., at the age of 91 years. Betty was born on April 27, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., to Robert and Hazel (leslie) Hackman. She attended Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., and was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. While in college she met her husband, Richard Gordon Sigman, and they were married in 1947. Richard Sigman joined the military after college, and Betty traveled the world with her husband throughout his U. S. Air Force career of 30-plus years. They had three children, Douglas Sigman, John Sigman and Penny Sigman. Betty is survived by her sons, Douglas and John; and her grandsons, Eric, David, Lucas and Austin Sigman.
Betty had a very active social life as an Air Force officer's wife, and was active in Eglin Officer's Wives Club. Together they enjoyed memberships in Eglin Yacht Club and Fort Walton Yacht Club.
Betty had a passion for helping others and giving to the community, and spent many years in service to Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), and faithfully volunteered at Fort Walton Hospital for over 20 years. She also had a great love of music, and sang with groups such as Sweet Adelines, Sugar Beach Chorus and Noteabelles.
In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in her memory to PAWS at 725 Lovejoy Rd., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
Betty will be interred with her husband Richard at Barancas National Cemetary in Pensacola.
