Combat Controllers
I have just spoken to Ron Brown at the CCT Heritage Hall.
Things are going well there and the exhibits are rapidly taking shape for the 18 April 2008 opening.
Ron tasked me with assisting the next project - that of constructing a PURPLE HEART EXHIBIT - so I am gathering information.
I need assistance from everyone in the community to:
1. either provide PURPLE HEART information and/or
2. forward this request on to others who may not be on the mailing list.
PLEASE SEND THE INFORMATION TO ME - in the following format:
DATE -- LOCATION, COUNTRY-- YOUR RANK (AT THE TIME) -- FIRST NAME, MIDDLE INITIAL, LAST NAME, -- UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT
Example:May 17, 1967 -- Dalat, RVN -- SSgt -- Wilber R. Wisneuskivitch -- 8APS

William Jefferson Fayettville Observer article
Dead airman started career as a Marine
The Pope Air Force Base special operations airman killed last week in Afghanistan started his military career as a Marine and taught an elite military course for special operations airmen.
Tech. Sgt. William Jefferson Jr. was assigned to the 21st Special Tactics Squadron — part of the Air Force’s Special Operations Command — when he was killed Saturday near Sperwan Ghar, Afghanistan. Jefferson died after his vehicle struck a homemade bomb.
Jefferson, who was 34, enlisted in the Marines in 1992. Four years later, in 1996, he enlisted in the Air Force. Jefferson completed the Combat Control courses and was stationed at Pope with the 21st Special Tactics Squadron.
Stealth deployment
Combat controllers are trained to deploy undetected into combat and hostile environments to establish assault zones or airfields, according to the Air Force. At the same time, they are responsible for air traffic control, counterterrorism, humanitarian assistance and other duties in a combat arena.
Jefferson spent almost five years as part of the 21st Special Tactics Squadron’s silver team before moving to the squadron’s Integrated Survey Program Office as an expert surveyor.
He spent two years in that position and then was selected to become an instructor at the Combat Control School at Pope. The school is a 13-week program that provides final combat controller qualifications.
Jefferson returned to the 21st Special Tactics Squadron’s operations staff in 2006 as head of exercise and plans responsible for all Joint Force Entry Exercises. He deployed in October 2006 to Iraq.
In September 2007, Jefferson received distinguished graduate honors from the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.
He deployed again in January 2008 as part of a unit conducting operations in Afghanistan.
During his career, Jefferson was awarded the Bronze Star medal, the Purple Heart, Air Force Commendation Medal with Valor and the Air Force Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters.
A memorial has been planned for 10 a.m. today (26 Apr 08) at Pope.

Fallen Combat Controller
To the Special Tactics Family,
It is with great sadness to tell you that we have lost an ST warrior deployed from 21 STS yesterday in Afghanistan. TSgt William Jefferson (WJ) was killed when the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by an IED.
TSgt Jefferson is survived by his wife Kristy and daughter, Tyler. I ask you to join all of us here at Hurlburt and our deployed locations as we come together to provide support and love for the families, friends and teammates of our fallen warrior.
We will pass information to you on the funeral service and memorial as we get it. Please route all RFIs through the STG/OSS and minimize calls to the family, 21 STS-fwd and home station so they can focus on taking care of the family.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, prayers, and support as we get through this difficult time for the ST family.
UPDATE:
The Memorial for TSgt William Jefferson will be held on Wed, 26 Mar 1000 hrs in Hanger 4, Pope AFB.
Uniform for military will be Service Dress.
Also, in lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation:

Dick Brawley's condition
Rick & Al,
I talked to Dick on Wed night and he sounded pretty down and the prognosis isn't very good. He said he would like to let people know his situation and to give out his room number for anyone that would like to get in touch with him.
Here's his info.........
Richard "Dick" Brawley, Rm 668
St Bernardine Medical Hospital
2101 N Waterman Ave
San Bernardino, Ca, 92404
Phone 1-909-883-8711, wait for the voice menu to start then dial 5668,that will ring his room phone.
Thanks to all who have already called or contacted Dick. Here’s some new info:
Al, Dick has been moved to a different room. His room extension is now 5650. They tried a different med on him last week and is showing great results, looks like it may be good enough to get him out of the woods for now. Let's hope for now it will. Please pass on, his old extension will just ring unanswered. Cheers Gus....

Base jumper tackles the tower!
Ron-
This is Neil Amonson. Not sure if you remember me but I went through AST as a combat controller back in 02'-03'. I finished up my four years of active duty and now I'm a full time student at Embry-Riddle working on my B.S. in Professional Aeronautics with a minor in Security and Intelligence.
On March 22, I will be participating in a vertical stair climb fundraiser/race for the American Lung Association. We will be racing up the stairwell of the tallest building in Salt Lake City, the Wells Fargo building. All the other competitors will be doing this task only once, but in traditional CCT fashion, I'm doing it 33 times, and wearing a parachute! By the time I am done I will have climbed 19,734 stairs.
Individuals can donate. It is 100% secure (or at least as secure as you can be on the internet) via the personal donation web link and the money goes straight to the American Lung Association.
I'm asking local business to donate at least one penny per stair, $197.34, and I will have their logo put on the front of a custom t-shirt I am having made just for the event.
Check out the following link for some more information about the event:http://www.mrsnv.com/evt/e01/part.jsp?acct=0753039463®ister_id=0&id=1780
Hope all is well on your end of things and I appreciate any support you can provide.
